    • Unlocking Action for Mental Health Support
Why don’t we support mental health as we do physical health?

      Tuesday 8th April 2025, 1800 for 1830 start

    • AluK Design Studio, 5-11 Worship Street, London, EC2A 2BH

Join us for an enlightening evening understanding the mental health challenge in our industry and some practical actions to improve it.

The appalling statistics of incidence of death by suicide in construction and prevalence of cases of high stress and anxiety has been known for decades.  Research into the causes of poor mental health has revealed the conditions that contribute to this unacceptable state of affairs.  However, the industry has not grasped the practical actions required to make the necessary changes.  First steps would be to establish rules to put mental health support on a par to those in place for physical health, and establish simple good practice to help create a create a culture for permanent change.  Why then are we stuck in a talking circle instead of taking action?

    • Can the Gold Standard Revolutionise Public Sector Construction?
      From Report to Impact

      Tuesday 13th May 2025, 1800 for 1830 start

    • AluK Design Studio, 5-11 Worship Street, London, EC2A 2BH

We are delighted to welcome Professor David Mosey to (re)introduce us to ‘Constructing the Gold Standard – An Independent Review of Public Construction Frameworks’ and the actions taken to improve the outcomes of public sector procurement.

‘Constructing the Gold Standard’ is a best practice report that is actually being put into effect.  It is endorsed by Government and industry for implementation on a ‘comply or explain’ basis and its adoption is being tested through a Constructing Excellence verification scheme.

This talk will explore the 24 Gold Standard recommendations and how they help to create frameworks and framework contracts that provide ‘a powerful engine-room for strategic planning, integrated teams, continuous improvement and the delivery of better, safer, faster and greener projects’.  It will explain how the Gold Standard has used successful case studies and proven systems to recommend improvements in the strategy, procurement, contracting and management of construction frameworks and alliances.

    Our Speaker

    Professor David Mosey CBE FICE
King's College London Centre of Construction Law

Professor David Mosey CBE FICE leads procurement research at the King's College London Centre of Construction Law and has advised on construction projects in many jurisdictions. His recommendations for improving value, improving safety, managing risk and achieving net zero carbon are set out in “Constructing the Gold Standard” and were endorsed in the 2022 ‘Construction Playbook’.

David co-authored ‘Guidance on Collaborative Procurement for Design and Construction to Support Building Safety’ that shows how balanced evaluation, early supply chain involvement, full consultation and digital data are essential to avoid another Grenfell Tower disaster.

David is principal author of the ‘PPC 2000 Project Partnering Contract’, the ‘FAC-1 Framework Alliance Contract’ and ‘TAC-1 Term Alliance Contract’ that have been adopted on procurements worth over £100 billion.

    • How to Drive Value-Based Decision Making?
An Update on the Value Toolkit

      Tuesday 8th July 2025, 1800 for 1830 start

    • AluK Design Studio, 5-11 Worship Street, London, EC2A 2BH

We are delighted to welcome Ellie Jenkins to reintroduce us to the Value Toolkit, that was relaunched by Constructing Excellence at their annual conference, in January.

Decision making in construction has been historically driven by how much something cost, or how long it took to build.  A project’s entire value was measured against those two benchmarks.

The Value Toolkit was developed in partnership with over 200 experts from across industry and Government to help reframe value and how to measure it.  The Toolkit provides a suite of guidance, processes and other tools that enables value-based decision making focused on driving better social, environmental and economic outcomes, so improving our industry’s impact on current and future generations.

    Our Speaker

    Ellie Jenkins
    Partner, Akerlof

A change-maker herself, Ellie has been the driving force behind the Value Toolkit, an industry-wide collaboration to awaken businesses towards the virtues of value-based decision making. She combines social value and sustainability expertise with a deep understanding of complex stakeholder engagement, managing an extensive network of strategic relationships across a diverse portfolio of industry and government bodies.
