  • Maximising Circularity in Construction:
    A Contractor’s Perspective

    Tuesday 10th September 2024, 1800 for 1830 start

  • AluK Design Studio, 5-11 Worship Street, London, EC2A 2BH

The London Plan Guidance on Circular Economy Statements puts circular economy principles at the heart of designing new buildings, requiring buildings that can more easily be dismantled and adapted over their lifetime. It treats building materials as resources rather than waste, and puts in place a clear hierarchy, prioritising the retention of existing structures above demolition, where this is the more sustainable and appropriate approach.

In this timely event, Matt will be discussing aspects from the recently published report ‘Maximising Circularity in the Built Environment’, produced by Mace in collaboration with Arup. This includes a discussion on: how embracing circularity is essential in delivering low embodied carbon assets, how best to measure circularity in construction, some common obstacles, and roadmaps to improve circularity for key construction materials, including best in class examples.

Our Speaker

Matt Brinklow, Associate Director - Responsible Business, Mace Construct

Matt is the sustainability lead for the Mace private sector construction business, which currently has twenty projects in delivery across London. He works with some of the most ambitious developers, helping drive the industry towards a net zero carbon built environment.

He has worked for several Tier-1 contractors in his career and understands the opportunities and challenges of lower carbon construction.  He recently teamed up with Arup in the production of a report focusing on the practical steps that can be taken to improve circularity in the built environment.
